Born in Benoni, South Africa, Charlize began her modeling career at the age of sixteen in Milan, Italy on a one-year modeling contract. At age 18 her mother made her go to Los Angeles, California to try a career in the movie industry. After eight months in LA, she has taken acting lessons and her acting career went up thanks to the box office success of the "The Devil's Advocate" where she played as Mary Ann Lomax. She has then became a well-known actress especially after she won as an Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal as a serial killer in a 2003 film "Monster"
